ABUJA, Nigeria — Mallam Nuhu Ribadu officially assumed his role as the National Security Adviser (NSA) on Monday, vowing to tackle insecurity and stabilize Nigeria.

A state house signed by Zu Mijinyawa, the SA Strategic Communication, Office of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Ribadu takes over the position from retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu on June 19.

In his inaugural address, Ribadu underlined the significant task ahead, stating that the current administration carries the weighty responsibility of fostering peace and ensuring stability across the country.

“This is a work for Nigerians, and we intend to build on the groundwork laid before us,” Ribadu stated.

“We aim to stabilize and secure our country and make Nigeria peaceful, restoring order and the rule of law comparable to any other nation worldwide.”

He emphasized that securing the nation is a continuous mission, expressing the readiness to build on the existing framework while counting on public support.

“Mr. President has a profound commitment to securing every inch of our country. We will work with all stakeholders to deliver on this vision. The colossal task of securing our country belongs to all Nigerians, and all friends of Nigeria,” Ribadu said.

Ribadu appealed to all servicemen and women, and by extension all Nigerians, for full support and cooperation. He emphasized the need for unity to fulfill the administration’s ambitions for a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.

Maj.-Gen. Monguno, in his remarks, expressed confidence in Ribadu’s capability to address the complex security challenges facing Nigeria. He described the new NSA as well-equipped, well-educated, and deeply understanding of the country’s security complexities.

Saying that Ribadu is starting on a good footing.

“The ever-changing 21st-century security environment demands a complex approach. Today we are dealing with terrorists and insurrectionists. You will have to rely on a collection of competent staff.”

Monguno expressed gratitude for his term and urged his staff to extend the same level of support and cooperation to his successor, wishing Ribadu a successful tenure.
