Borno state’s clerics have organized a prayer for rain in response to a prolonged drought that has left local farmers anxious about their crops.
The absence of rainfall for over four weeks during the planting season has raised concerns among subsistence farmers, who fear poor yields due to the scorching sun and lack of water.
Led by the Shehu of Borno, His Eminence Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Allamin Elkanemi, the prayer took place at the grand eid ground, with the hope of divine intervention to ease the drought.
The prayer session was also attended by top government officials led by the Secretary to Government of Borno state, Dr Bukar Tijjani.
The farming community, heavily reliant on successful harvests, is anxiously awaiting the arrival of rain to salvage their crops.
The prayers represent a collective effort to address the challenges faced by farmers, offering hope for a fruitful harvest season.
The Humanitarian Times learnt that similar prayers were held on Sunday across many churches during which Christian faithfuls also called on God for the rains.
