Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum’s unannounced midnight visit to the General Hospital, Gwoza, two weeks ago has sparked a major transformation of the healthcare centre.
The governor expressed dismay at the hospital’s dilapidated state, with patients left in darkness due to lack of electricity.
The impromptu visit occurred on July 15, 2023, during Zulum’s trip to Gwoza for humanitarian and developmental activities.
The governor used a torchlight to inspect wards, taking note of the condition of patients and the functionality, or lack thereof, of the hospital’s facilities.
In response to the state of disrepair, Governor Zulum immediately ordered the rehabilitation of the hospital. The directive has since been implemented, with work now underway to improve the conditions of the healthcare centre.
Engr. Ibrahim Idriss, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Special Projects and a Commissioner-designate, confirmed the progress of the renovations.
“In compliance with the directive by His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, we have mobilized to site and rehabilitation work has commenced at the General Hospital in Gwoza,” stated Engr Idriss.
Idriss also assured the people of Gwoza that the renovation work would be completed in a timely manner.
“We will ensure that the ongoing work is completed on time to enable people to have quality and affordable healthcare services,” he added. This development marks a significant step towards improving public healthcare in the region.
