In an unprecedented move demonstrating a profound commitment to youth education, Senator Babangida Hussain of Jigawa Northwest senatorial district has redirected his 10 million naira furniture allowance to fund scholarships for tertiary students in his zone.

The scholarships, disbursed at the Wali Education Foundation Center (WEFC) on August 14, 2023, will benefit 274 students selected from the 137 wards across the 12 local government areas of Jigawa Northwest. The WEFC, an institution dedicated to supporting students, youths, women, and orphans through education and entrepreneurial skills, served as the platform for this philanthropic endeavor.

Hussain, also known as Walin Kazaure, emphasized in his speech that the funding will primarily support students studying science and technical courses, aiming to foster skill development among the youth in the region.

“Not only science and technical but other studies are essential and would look after them in the future,” said Senator Hussain, expressing his vision for a holistic educational support system.

In addition to education, the senator’s foundation plans to continue bolstering local agriculture, health, and other entrepreneurial sectors to uplift the socio-economic standard of the region. He urged the scholarship recipients to dedicate themselves to their studies, fostering the nation’s future leaders.

Salisu Umar, the Executive Secretary of the foundation, applauded the senator’s foresight and commitment to education. Umar revealed that the beneficiaries were chosen by a committee representing all communities within the senatorial district. He encouraged them to study diligently to honor the senator’s investment in their futures.

In a broader perspective, Senator Hussain’s educational initiative is not his only contribution to the welfare of his constituents.

During a recent visit to Birnin Kudu, he pledged to address the damage to the Masaya bridge, which links several local communities and neighboring states.

The senator’s actions demonstrate a deep-seated passion for improving the lives of those in his constituency, whether through education, infrastructure, or socio-economic support. His dedication is a shining example of public service, reminding us all that leadership is not just about power but about making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
