Borno State’s Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has ushered in a new era of leadership by appointing Engr Dr Bukar Abubakar as the new rector of Ramat Polytechnic, effective from 25th September, 2023.

This announcement, made by the Governor’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, underscores the growing prevalence of engineers in Zulum’s government.

A native of Bama Local Government Area in Borno State, 51-year-old Engr Abubakar brings a wealth of experience and academic prowess to his new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as the deputy rector in charge of administration at the same institution since 2020.

Engr Abubakar’s academic credentials are impressive, with a PhD and Masters in Engineering, both specializing in Energy and Environmental Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, all from the University of Maiduguri.

The new Rector’s journey in engineering began with a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Ramat Polytechnic in 1994, following his graduation from Government Technical College, Bama, in 1990.

In addition to his engineering qualifications, Engr Abubakar has also acquired certificates in computer appreciation and attended numerous local and international courses on a variety of topics, including Sustainable Manpower Development, Mechatronics/Autotronics, and Research for Sustainable Development.

Engr Abubakar’s professional journey began at Bolori Group of Companies in Maiduguri, where he served as a transport officer from 1995 to 2000. He joined Ramat Polytechnic in 2006, and his dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks over the years, culminating in his recent appointment as rector.

His contributions to academia are significant, with nearly 40 published research works to his name. He is also a member of several engineering associations, both locally and internationally.

Governor Zulum, who is also a professor of irrigation engineering, expressed his congratulations to the new rector and extended his gratitude to the outgoing rector for his service to the state. This appointment of Engr Abubakar is a testament to the growing trend of engineers taking up key positions in Zulum’s administration, reflecting the governor’s commitment to harnessing technical expertise for the development of Borno State.
