President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Alhaji Adamu Fika, a respected elder statesman and former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Fika, who passed away at the age of 90, played a crucial role in shaping the Federal Civil Service and left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history.

This was contained in a press statement issued on Oct. 25, 2023 by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity,

President Tinubu fondly remembered the significant contributions made by the late Fika during his tenure as Head of Service and as the chairman of various civil service reform panels.

He emphasized that Fika’s dedication and commitment were particularly evident during challenging times for the Civil Service. The President acknowledged the pivotal role played by late Fika in nurturing the institution responsible for formulating and implementing public policies.

“Alhaji Adamu Fika’s life of service to Nigeria saw him hold various important positions before his elevation to the Office of Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; a post he held until his retirement,” President Tinubu remarked, highlighting the breadth of Fika’s career.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the government and people of Yobe State, recognizing the significant loss they have suffered. He praised Fika’s remarkable legacy, characterized by his accomplishments, integrity, passion for service, and unwavering commitment.

The President called upon public servants and fellow citizens to emulate Fika’s example and strive for excellence in their respective roles.

The President Tinubu offered prayers for the departed soul, saying, “May Allah forgive his sins and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”

The elder statesman was announced to have passed on at midnight of Oct. 24 at the age of 90 years.

Though from Yobe state, His funeral and interment was done in Kaduna where he lived for all the years of his retirement. The funeral, led by Sheikh Ahmad Mahmoud Gumi, was attended by representatives of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who represented the president; Ambassador Babagana Kingibe; Yobe State Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, Emirs of Fika, Bade and Fune, among other dignitaries.
