He acknowledged their exceptional contributions throughout the 12-year Boko Haram insurgency, highlighting their crucial role in disseminating accurate information from every corner of the state.

“Since the establishment of Yobe State in 1991, journalists have performed admirably by reporting on the happenings within our communities,” the Commissioner stated.

“I want to particularly acknowledge and applaud your efforts during the prolonged Boko Haram crisis,” he said.

“While many individuals fled Yobe, not a single journalist abandoned their duties due to terrorism. Despite the extremely difficult and sometimes perilous conditions, all of you remained steadfast, fulfilling your professional responsibilities.”

Rajab Ismail, Chairman of the NUJ Yobe Council, expressed gratitude to the administration led by Governor Mai Mala Buni for facilitating the workshop. The initiative, he said, reflects the government’s commitment to supporting journalists and enhancing their capacities in covering critical situations.

“The Boko Haram conflict has had a significant impact on working journalists in the region. Journalists operating in Yobe State have faced numerous challenges, including threats to their safety and attempts to obstruct their work,” Comrade Rajab noted. “However, their unwavering commitment to delivering accurate and timely news has played a vital role in keeping the public informed and creating awareness of the ongoing conflict.”

As the conflict persists, journalists continue to demonstrate remarkable professionalism, ensuring that the voices and stories of the affected communities are heard. Their dedication to their profession serves as a testament to their resilience and the critical role of journalism in times of crisis.
