In its maiden convocation ceremony over the weekend, the Nigerian Army University, Biu (NAUB), bestowed an honorary Doctor of Letters (D. Litts) degree on retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, a former Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) and Nigerian Ambassador to Benin Republic.
The university had also presented diplomas to 417 graduates across numerous disciplines.
NAUB acknowledged Buratai’s instrumental role in founding the university in 2018 during his tenure as CoAS. Buratai, expressing gratitude for the honor, recognized the university’s establishment as a measure to combat insecurity in the North-East region of Nigeria through education.
In his response to the award, Buratai thanked the university’s management and expressed appreciation for his health and longevity following his 40-year tenure in the military. He further stated that the recognition would inspire him to continue his service to humanity.
Buratai also advocated for the inclusion of life skills in the university curriculum, suggesting it would equip students to become responsible societal members.
The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kyari Mohammed, noted that Buratai’s distinguished service to the country and humanity made him a fitting recipient of the honorary degree.
Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the current CoAS and Chairman of the Governing Council at NAUB, extended his congratulations to Buratai, commending his exemplary leadership abilities.
