There is an African proverb that says when someone’s death rumor circulates while they are far from the brink of death, they will live even longer to witness the funerals of those who wished for their demise.

But we must also admit that death is inescapable. When the times comes, every soul shall taste it. Everyone knows that talk less of a soldier that has seen battles and severally interfaced with the flames of death.

That was why against the backdrop of swirling rumors about his alleged death, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has not only debunked such false news but also reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to his duties and purpose.

“I am alive and hearty”, the CDS declared, symbolizing the spirit of resilience and determination that marked his stellar military career.

Gen. Musa, who recently returned from an official assignment abroad, was greeted with the shocking news of his own supposed death. Unfazed by this misinformation, he resumed his duties at the helm of the Nigerian Armed Forces, more determined than ever to fulfill his purpose.

“I will not die until I fulfill my purpose,” he casually, with a calming smile on his face declared to those very close to him – obviously in a manner that resonated with his indomitable will to serve his country.

Left to him, even the statement put out by the defense headquarters was needless because the efficient general under whose compelling words – not bullet – thousand of Boko Haram began to surrender, is not dead. But to fulfill perfunctory righteousness, and to calm the nerves and emotions of those who love him, he allowed the rebuttal statement to go out.

Instead of talking about death, one should rather write in celebrating this Brave, Courageous, Discipline, Loyal, Resilient, Skilled, Dedicated, Patriotic, Tenacious, and Selfless officer who was born on 25th December 1967 in Sokoto, northwest Nigeria.

General Christopher Gwabin Musa has built an impressive military career spanning over three decades. Commissioned on 21st September 1991, Musa climbed the ranks, proving his mettle at each step. From serving as a Platoon Commander at 192 Bn in 1991 to his current position as CDS, his journey is a testament to his grit, tenacity, and commitment to his nation.

Known for his sterling leadership qualities, Gen. Musa was appointed as CDS by President Bola Tinubu on 19th June, with promotion to the rank of General on 31st July. With a rich educational background that spans across national and international institutions, Gen. Musa brings with him a diverse range of experiences and insights.

Gen. Musa’s operational history is as extensive as it is impressive. From OP MESA to the ongoing JTF (NE) Op HADIN KAI, he has been a part of numerous campaigns, showcasing his capacity for strategic planning, execution, and leadership. His dedication to service has earned him a wealth of awards and honors, including the Distinguished Service Star and the Grand Service Star.

Despite his demanding career, Gen. Musa is a family man, married to Mrs. Lilian Oghogho Musa, and a proud father of four children. His hobbies, fittingly, include “service to humanity.”

Gen. Musa’s life is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit, and his unyielding dedication to his purpose is an inspiration for us all. As he continues to serve his country with unwavering dedication, he stands as a beacon of resilience and determination, demonstrating that no rumor or falsehood can deter a man committed to his purpose.

In the face of adversity, Gen. Musa chooses to channel his energy into fulfilling his duties, embracing his purpose, and serving his country. His life and work, especially as exemplified during his tour of duty as Theater Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, are an emphatic declaration that he will not rest until his mission is accomplished. As he continues to lead the Nigerian Armed Forces, his words remain a powerful testament to his dedication: “I will not die until I fulfill my purpose.”

General Musa shall live longer and I believe he would pray that even those who deliberately or inadvertently spread rumors of his death will tarry longer as well to see the glory of the Lord in his life. Long live!
