CHIBOK, Nigeria (tHT) — Chaos erupted in Chibok village on Tuesday evening as Boko Haram militants launched a brazen attack, leaving two individuals feared dead and a community in disarray.

The assault, which took place at approximately 7 p.m. local time, sent shockwaves through the headquarters of Chibok local government area in Borno state. The sound of gunfire echoed through the air, prompting villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Reports from the scene described a scene of terror and destruction as the attackers invaded homes, looting food items before setting houses ablaze. Pona, a witness to the harrowing events, recounted that many who sought refuge in the bush had not returned as of 12 noon the following day.

“We lost two lives who died of gunshots during the attack,” said Pona, underscoring the tragic toll taken by the violent incursion.

Confirming the incident, the Borno state police revealed that the attack was met with a joint response from the military and local law enforcement stationed in Chibok town.

“The attack was repelled by the joint effort of the military and the police,” stated ASP Nahum Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer.

“Unfortunately, two persons were killed – one of the deceased, named Mr. Badi, aged 75, and one Ngule, aged 45, died during the attack. But the situation has since returned to normal.”

The assault serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram in the region, despite efforts to combat the militant group.

As the affected community grapples with the aftermath of the attack, authorities are working to restore a sense of security and stability to the area. The tragic loss of life underscores the urgency of addressing the persistent threat of violence faced by residents of Chibok and neighboring areas.
