The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, had today Dec. 21, embarked on a journey to Rann, the administrative centre of the Kala-Balge Local Government Area, where he oversaw the distribution of N100m, assisting over 10,000 households in the region.
Governor Zulum, travelling by helicopter from Maiduguri, supervised the cash distribution designed to aid residents who have lost their primary sources of income.
The funds were distributed among household heads, vulnerable women, and housewives, each receiving a cash gift of ten thousand naira (N10,000).
Governor Zulum clarified that the initiative was intended to support the inhabitants of Rann, a community isolated due to recurring flooding that prevents access to other areas within the state.
“We have come to Rann, the heart of Kala-Balge, primarily to offer monetary support to this community which has been disconnected from the rest of the country for the past six months due to flooding,” the governor expressed.
Annual flooding, caused by the release of water from the Lagbdo dam in the Republic of Cameroon, hinders residents’ ability to travel to other parts of Borno to avail basic necessities.

During his visit to Rann, Governor Zulum also acknowledged the efforts of the 3rd battalion troops. He lauded their sacrifices and resilience in preserving peace and safeguarding the residents of Borno State.
In a gesture of goodwill, the governor directed that each soldier in the battalion be given a Christmas or end-of-year gift of N50,000.
Accompanying the governor on his visit was the Majority Leader at the Borno State House of Assembly, Dige Mohammed, who is native to Kala-Balge LGA. Commissioners of Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele, Religious Affairs, Babagana Malarima, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Ali Busuguma, and other high-ranking government officials also joined the entourage.
