In a significant change of leadership at the heart of Nigeria’s military operations, Major General Wahidi Shuaibu has been appointed as the new commander of Operation Hadin Kai, a joint counterinsurgency effort of the Nigerian military in Maiduguri.
During the formal handover cer byemony at the command and control center’s headquarters, outgoing Theater Commander Major General Gold Chibuisi, who has led the frontline troops since June 2023, delivered a parting message.
He encouraged the forces to extend the same support and commitment to General Shuaibu that they had shown him, expressing gratitude for the joint achievements in combating the Boko Haram insurgency.

Major General Shuaibu, while speaking to the press, reaffirmed his dedication to the core objectives of the operation.
He stated, “Coming to the Theater is another opportunity to serve, and my role basically is to galvanize officers and men to ensure that we achieve the mandate of Operation Hadin Kai. So we will just go ahead with the mandate in the ongoing operation and to enhance it and ensure that officers and men do what they are supposed to do.”

On the challenges of the recent surge in improvised explosive device (IED) attacks, General Shaibu said the issue will be a focal issue for his immediate attention and action.
The transfer of command was ceremonially marked by the traditional lowering and hoisting of command flags, symbolizing the beginning of General Shaibu’s tenure and the continuation of Operation Hadin Kai’s mission under new leadership.
