Ever seen Apple’s logo? Of course, you have—it’s everywhere! But have you ever noticed the bite taken out of the apple in the logo? Ever wondered why it’s there?
Well, let’s take a quick trip back to 1977. Apple was just starting out and wanted to stand out in the tech world. They had a logo, but it was a complicated picture of Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. It was too detailed to put on their products, so Steve Jobs, the boss of Apple, decided they needed something simpler.
Enter Rob Janoff, a designer who got a very simple job description from Jobs: “Don’t make it cute.” Janoff decided to draw an apple, but not just any apple—a clean, simple one with a leaf.
There was a little problem, though. Some people thought the apple looked like a cherry. To fix this, Janoff had a clever idea: take a bite out of the apple in the picture so everyone would know it was definitely an apple.
On top of that, they added some colorful stripes to the logo to show that Apple’s computers could display colors. And just like that, the new Apple logo was born, and it soon became famous in the 1980s.

Some people thought the bite was a play on the word “byte,” which is a computer term, or that it had something to do with the story of Adam and Eve from the Bible. But the designer, Janoff, said those were just fun coincidences—he didn’t think about that when he made the logo.
And that’s the story! The Apple logo is simple, smart, and easy to recognize, all because of a bite.
We, at The Humanitarian Times, are interested in Apple because they not only make cool technology but also help people in need around the world. Apple supports food banks and other organizations that help people who don’t have enough food through programs like Strengthen Local Communities. Apple employees often work with local groups to give food, shelter, and other help to those who need it.

Apple and its employees are giving back to communities in the US and all over the world. Apple’s Employee Giving program has been running for 10 years and has raised almost $725 million for 39,000 organizations globally. In 2021 alone, over $120 million was given out. About 68,000 employees have volunteered nearly 2 million hours to help make this happen.
Apart from the Employee Giving program, Apple’s Community Investment team also donates millions of dollars every year to charities worldwide, supporting organizations like World Central Kitchen, The King Center, and China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.
