KANO, Nigeria (THT) — A Kano State High Court has handed down a death sentence by hanging to Chinese national Frank Geng-Quangrong for the murder of his girlfriend, Ummukhulsum Buhari.

Geng-Quangrong fatally stabbed Ummukhulsum following an alleged dispute over their relationship. The tragic incident took place on the evening of September 16, 2022, in the Janbulo area of the Kano metropolis, where the victim resided.

According to reports, Geng-Quangrong forcefully entered Ummukhulsum’s residence after frantic knocking and proceeded to her room, where he carried out the fatal stabbing.

The victim’s mother recounted the horrifying ordeal, stating, “When we got tired of his knocking, I went out to tell him to keep off our house, but he pushed and went straight into her room and killed her.”

Neighbors responded to the commotion, apprehended Geng-Quangrong, and alerted the authorities. The Kano State government subsequently charged the Chinese man with murder, to which he claimed self-defense.

On Tuesday, March 26, the High Court found Geng-Quangrong guilty of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging.
