With efforts focused on extermination, degradation, and decimation of the group, the Boko Haram insurgency is nearing its end, the Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security Professor Usman Tar, has said.
Speaking at a press conference delivered on Saturday at the NUJ House in Maiduguri, Professor Tar, provided an update on the general security situation in the state, highlighting significant progress in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.
He praised the dedication of the Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) troops, emphasizing their relentless counter-insurgency operations that have weakened the insurgency.
The commissioner commended the officers and soldiers for establishing a strong and effective presence in all territories previously disturbed by the insurgents, ensuring full coverage in all 27 local government areas of Borno State.

In addition to the military operations, Professor Tar highlighted the Borno State Government’s commitment to non-kinetic operations, such as engaging in the battle for hearts and minds, implementing community-driven dispute resolution mechanisms, and making substantial investments in rural and urban infrastructure.
“The policy foundation of the Borno State Restoration project is the 25-year Development Plan and 10-year Strategic Transformation Initiative,” Professor Tar stated, emphasizing the state’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda as a key component of the initiative.
He said the progress made in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency and the comprehensive approach taken by the Borno State Government demonstrate significant strides towards restoring peace and stability in the region.
Despite the celebrated reduction of their numbers, due to ongoing military operations against Boko Haram, the group, which had over 100,000 members surrender, continues to carry out brutal IED attacks on both troops and civilians.
Last week, suspected Boko Haram terrorists ambushed a police officer and brutally killed him while his family watched along the Damboa-Maiduguri highway.
