UYO, Nigeria — A groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering women in agriculture has taken root in Nigeria’s South-South geopolitical zone, where one hundred women farmers are now poised to cultivate success with significant financial boosts.
The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), focusing on women empowerment, launched a robust agricultural support program in Uyo today, earmarking five hundred thousand naira each for female farmers who are often the backbone of rural economies but remain marginalized in access to resources.
At the helm of this transformational agenda, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was represented by Mrs. Hajiya Nana Shettima, who conveyed the First Lady’s message about the pivotal role of governmental and non-governmental support in ensuring sustainable development for local farmers.

“This is more than just financial aid; it’s a catalyst for food security and a testament to the indomitable spirit of our women,” said Mrs Shettima.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom lauded the initiative, highlighting the solidarity and unity fostered by Senator Tinubu, which transcends political divides to bring together the wives of Governors across Nigeria’s 36 states.
“We are not just planting crops, but also the seeds of empowerment that will grow into a more equitable future for our women,” declared Pastor Patience Eno, wife of Akwa Ibom’s Governor, as she welcomed the First Lady’s delegation with a promise of unwavering support for RHI’s vision.

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri, the wife of the Governor of Bayelsa State and Zonal Chairman of the South-South, showcased the transformative impact of RHI, “We’ve witnessed remarkable stories of resilience and success, and today, another chapter begins for these wonderful women and special groups.”
The event culminated in a ceremonial presentation of cheques to the Governors’ wives in the region, symbolizing the broader financial assistance extended to one hundred individuals with special needs.
The Renewed Hope Initiative, with its roots strengthened by such support, is set to change the agricultural landscape, fostering growth not just in the fields, but in the lives of women who till them.

Kwapchi Bata, the Senior Assistant on Media & ICT to the Vice President, remarked, “Today marks a momentous step toward not only agricultural advancement but also in the march towards gender equality in one of the most vital sectors of our economy.”
This latest development promises a harvest of hope and prosperity, sowing the seeds for a future where women in agriculture are recognized not just as cultivators, but as key innovators and leaders in the journey towards a sustainable and inclusive Nigeria.
