Konduga, Nigeria – In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against terrorism, the Nigerian Army’s Operation Desert Sanity III has dealt a decisive blow to Boko Haram insurgents in the notorious Sambisa Forest. Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, the acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1, led a morale-boosting visit to the troops, lauding their efforts after a successful 10-day offensive.

Addressing the troops on the outskirts of Sambisa Forest in Konduga Local Government Area, Brig. Gen. Haruna celebrated the operation’s achievements, which included the elimination of 21 Boko Haram terrorists, the destruction of multiple insurgent camps, and the rescue of 386 captives.

“I want to commend you for your exceptional performance and professionalism exhibited during the operation,” General Haruna stated. “Our Special Forces troops, the troops of 21 Armored Brigade, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and the Hybrid Forces have all done very well. The Chief of Army Staff is highly pleased with your performance.”

Operation Desert Sanity III aimed to clear Sambisa Forest of all terrorist elements and provide an opportunity for those willing to surrender. The operation saw troops successfully dismantle several Boko Haram enclaves, including Lawanti, Ukuba, Farisu, Sabil Huda, Njimia, Garin Gulukos, Garin Falluja, Shababul Ummah, Garin Pannel Bitter, and Lagara Anguwan Gwai Gwai, among others.

The troops’ efforts not only resulted in significant casualties among the insurgents, including high-ranking commanders, but also led to substantial recoveries of arms, equipment, and armored vehicles. The operation’s success underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in the North East region.

“We have to stop whatever we are doing and come here to let you know that we are with you always,” Haruna added. “To know what you people are doing so that we can have a feeling of what you people are going through.”

The rescue of 386 civilians, some of whom had been held captive for up to 10 years, marks a poignant victory. Those rescued will receive medical support and rehabilitation to aid their recovery from the years of hardship endured under Boko Haram’s grip.

Gratitude was also extended to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for his unwavering support, and to the Theatre Commander, North East Operation Hadin Kai Joint Task Force, Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, for his strategic guidance and supervision that were instrumental in the operation’s success.

As the Nigerian Army continues its relentless efforts against terrorism, Operation Desert Sanity III stands as a testament to the bravery and dedication of the troops on the front lines, paving the way for a more secure and peaceful future for the region.
