Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, had on Sunday supervised the distribution of food items and agricultural inputs to over 35,000 male heads of household in Monguno Local Government Area.

Each recipient received a 25kg bag of rice and cowpeas to help cultivate their farmlands. The rice distribution was part of 20 trucks donated by the federal government to alleviate the high cost of food items in the state.

“We are in Monguno town mainly for two functions,” Zulum said. “First, to distribute food items provided to the government of Borno State by the federal government. Twenty trucks of rice were given to us, and this morning, we distributed all of them to this community.”

In addition to food, seeds and cowpeas were distributed to help those who lack the resources to purchase farm inputs. “We have also distributed seeds, as most of them do not have the capacity to buy farm inputs, and we have distributed cowpeas to all the able heads of households,” Zulum stated.

The governor also announced the provision of 90 trucks of fertilizer from the federal government to be distributed free to farmers. “On behalf of the people of Borno State, I want to appreciate the federal government for this laudable gesture,” he added.

In a parallel effort, Governor Zulum distributed over N450 million to 45,000 widows and vulnerable women in Monguno. “We have also distributed N10,000 in cash support and a wrapper to each of the over 45,000 widows and vulnerable women in Monguno town,” Zulum said.

He emphasized that the distribution is aimed at supporting vulnerable families who have lost their livelihoods due to the Boko Haram crisis, rather than creating dependency.
