JIGAWA, Nigeria (tHT) — In a remarkable display of grace and resilience, Senator Babangida Hussaini, representing the Jigawa North-West Senatorial District, has announced his forgiveness for those who looted and vandalized his farm during recent national protests. Despite the significant personal loss, the senator has chosen to focus on unity and the continued service to his constituents.

“My thoughts and sympathies go to the people of my senatorial district, Jigawa State, and Nigerians whose lives were lost and property vandalized,” Senator Hussaini said in a heartfelt statement on August 1, 2024. “I am not angry at what has happened to me personally and I cannot be deterred or distracted from my legislative service.”

Senator Hussaini’s farm was among the many properties targeted by hoodlums amidst the chaos, resulting in the theft of numerous cows. Acknowledging the broader implications of these events, he emphasized the need for understanding and dialogue.

“I consider what happened as a manifestation of the unfortunate circumstances in which we found ourselves as a nation at this historic moment,” he stated. “It is clear to all that the predictable negative consequences of the demonstrations do not in any way define the issues being canvassed by the organizers.”

Despite the adversity, Senator Hussaini remains resolute in his mission to serve the people of Jigawa North-West. “I remain committed in serving my people more than ever before in the pursuit of effective legislation that will positively impact the people of my Senatorial District and Nigeria in general,” he affirmed.

Expressing his deepest sympathies to those affected by the unrest, Senator Hussaini appealed for peace and constructive dialogue. “I wish to plead that we should give dialogue a chance for the betterment of Nigeria and our people,” he urged.

The recent national protests, sparked by concerns over governance, saw a wave of destruction across the country. In Jigawa State, hoodlums looted Senator Hussaini’s farm, making away with many cows, yet the senator’s unwavering commitment to his constituents shines through his message of forgiveness and hope.

It was earlier reported by many news platforms that Hoodlums posing as protesters launched coordinated attacks on the home and farms of Senator Babangida Hussaini in Jigawa state’s Kazaure senatorial district. The attackers wielding dangerous weapons looted livestock and farm produce worth billions of naira. They tried to burn down the senator’s residence in Kazaure but were thwarted by security agents. Additional assaults targeted his multi-purpose farm in Ka’el Gada town and Takwasa Farm along Daura-Kazaure Road, resulting in the theft of assorted livestock. Senator Hussaini confirmed the incidents, stating that the perpetrators looted valuable assets, including assorted animals acquired for breeding from abroad.

“The hoodlums in their hundreds gained access to my farm at Gada despite efforts by security operatives to stop them. In the ensuing melee, they vandalised the farm, removed doors and windows, and carted away millions of naira worth of ostriches, animals and farm produce,” the Senator told journalists.
