Former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff has stepped forward to show his support and empathy to the victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri.
Demonstrating unparalleled commitment to his home state, Sheriff announced a substantial donation of ₦100 million to aid the post-flood recovery efforts.
The floods, which wreaked havoc on Tuesday, left a trail of destruction in their wake, displacing thousands and causing widespread damage.
Governor Sheriff, who was en route to Europe at the time, immediately cut short his trip upon hearing the distressing news and returned to Maiduguri to offer support and solace.

Touring the flood-ravaged areas, Senator Sheriff witnessed firsthand the extent of the damage and the resilience of the affected communities. He then paid a visit to Governor Babagana Zulum, where he expressed deep sympathy for the losses endured and praised the government’s swift response to the crisis.
“I want to commiserate with the government and people of our dear state over the sad flood incident,” Sheriff remarked.
“I was on my way to London when I heard about what happened. It is such an overwhelming situation; I had to come back to sympathize with our people. May God help Borno to recover from this devastating incident.”
His generous donation of ₦100 million is intended to support the relief efforts to the victims.
“As a pensioner, I’d like to donate a modest amount as support to the victims of this unfortunate disaster,” he said.
Governor Zulum commended Sheriff’s unrelenting support and passion for Borno State.
“You have always identified with us here in Borno, and I am not surprised that you cut short your trip in Europe to be here,” Zulum stated.
“If all sons of Borno can emulate your sense of passion for the development of our state, we may not need external support to overcome the flooding challenge that we face today.”
