Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, donated ₦100 million on Sunday to aid in the recovery from the devastating flood that struck Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Tuesday.
Mr. Abubakar, who also serves as the Waziri of Adamawa, calls for a holistic approach to providing a lasting solution to the recurring flooding of such magnitude.

The former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was in Maiduguri on a sympathy visit to the government and people of Borno State.
During a courtesy call on the Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, the former Vice President expressed his sympathy and condolences over the losses and deaths caused by the flooding.
“I want to assure you that we are all partners when it comes to the rebuilding of Maiduguri in Borno State. Your Excellency should know that what affects the people of Borno affects me, and we want to assure you that we stand with you in these trying times. We will continue to support you throughout this period of rebuilding,” he said.
“Therefore, I would like to announce my own contribution to the rebuilding of Maiduguri in the amount of ₦100 million. We pray for the repose of the souls of those who have died. May Almighty Allah grant them eternal rest,” he added.

Governor Zulum thanked the former Vice President and his entourage for the visit, stressing that his donation would significantly help address the challenges faced by the flood victims. He noted that the government values the spirit behind the donation more than the amount given.
Atiku was accompanied by the former governor of Sokoto State, Waziri Aminu Tambuwal; former Minister of Police Affairs, Adamu Maina Waziri; former PDP gubernatorial candidates Jabari and Mohammed Imam; and a host of other prominent Borno opposition politicians, including Mohammed Umara Kumalia.
