A delegation led by Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Kadafur, had on Tuesday visited Governor Babagana Zulum to present a ₦200 million donations raised by the people of Southern Borno.
This effort was part of a community initiative responding to the governor’s call for assistance. The funds, collected from Southern Borno residents both locally and abroad, underscore the community’s deep commitment to aiding those affected by the disaster.
Deputy Governor Kadafur expresses his deep gratitude for the widespread support from his kins and constituents as he and presentee a ₦200 million cheque to the state’s Flood Basket Fund. He assured Governor Zulum of continued backing and additional forthcoming donations.
The Southern Borno group had also visited and commiserated the Shehu of Borno, whose palace was also affected and donated the sum of ₦10 million as a contribution for the sanitation of the palace.

The response from the broader community has been equally impressive. Business mogul Alhaji Aminu Al Hassan Dantata has donated a staggering N1.5 billion to support the relief efforts, marking one of the most significant individual contributions. Additionally, the Borno State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, contributed N60 million, further bolstering the relief fund.
The Shehu of Borno, Dr. Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, also received financial assistance for repairs to his palace, which was affected by the flooding. Deputy Governor Kadafur presented an additional N10 million, reflecting the community’s ongoing commitment to restoration and recovery.
“These collective financial efforts highlight the resilience and solidarity of the people of Borno, ” Inuwa Bwala, a former commissioner of information and culture and veteran journalist told news men. He said the contributions from various sectors underscore a robust and unified response to the crisis, demonstrating the strength of community bonds in the face of adversity.
Governor Zulum who was deeply elated by the solidarity and support from the southern Borno political stakeholders, pledged transparent use of the funds to ensure effective relief and recovery, while urging continued unity and cooperation among the people for the region’s progress.
