MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Mohammed Imam, a prominent Borno politician and former governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has stepped up to aid his community amidst the devastating flooding that recently struck Maiduguri. Last week, Imam donated ₦50 million to the Borno state government to support relief initiatives for those affected by the disaster.

During his visit to the government house, Imam expressed his deep concern for the citizens impacted by the flooding, which has left thousands in dire need of assistance. “Our hometown and beloved city, Maiduguri, has been visited by one of the most devastating natural disasters in the form of flooding,” he said.

“While we commiserate with the people, we feel duty-bound to support the government with this modest sum of ₦50 million from what Allah has blessed us with to bring succor to our people.”

In response to the generous donation, Governor Babagana Zulum thanked Imam for his kindness and commitment to the welfare of the state. He assured the public that all funds donated would be utilized judiciously for their intended purpose, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the relief efforts.

“Mohammed Imam is known for his immense contributions to the development of the state since his days as the executive chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC),” Zulum said. “We appreciate his financial contributions which will go a long way in cushioning the difficulties faced by our  people as a result of this flood.”
