Maiduguri Flood: First Lady Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative Donates ₦500 million to Borno Government

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Bola Tinubu, represented by wife of the vice president, Mrs. Nana Kashim Shettima, visited Borno State to offer comfort to those affected by the catastrophic floods that devastated 80% of Maiduguri, the state capital.

During her visit, the first lady, accompanied by a retinue of governors and ministers wives, visited the palace of the Shehu of Borno, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Umar Ibn El Kanemi, where she commiserated and consoled the  royal father.

She later visited the government house Maiduguri, where she offered mesaage of solidarity and sympathy to the Government of Borno state over the unfortunate incident of flooding. 

Mrs. Shettima extended prayers for the alleviation of suffering among flood victims. “We stand with you in this trying time,” she said, emphasizing the need for wisdom and courage in the government’s response.

In a significant gesture of support, she announced a donation of N500 million to assist those affected by the disaster. “This is just the beginning,” she stated, highlighting the commitment of the federal government to aid the recovery efforts.

Governor Zulum expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of donations and support. “We will ensure that every naira is utilized judiciously,” he promised. “Transparency and honesty will guide our actions as we navigate this recovery.”
