Seyi Tinubu, a youth advocate and son of Nigeria’s president, expressed solidarity on Friday with the people of Borno State following devastating floods in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Accompanied by his brother, friends, and associates, Tinubu announced a donation exceeding ₦500 million on their behalf, aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by young people affected by the disaster.

“This visit marks the first step in our ongoing commitment to support Maiduguri and Borno State until they see brighter days,” Tinubu said. “We are here today, not just as representatives of our family but as part of a collective effort by young Nigerians to bring hope and relief.”

The visit follows a recent trip by President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries to Borno, underscoring national support for the affected communities.

Addressing Governor Babagana Zulum and other officials, Tinubu praised the resilience of Borno’s people, noting, “Despite past challenges, the community’s strength and perseverance are commendable.”

He added, “We hope this contribution brings comfort and relief. Together, we can rebuild and heal. The Nigerian youth stand shoulder to shoulder with Borno.”

The donation included food items such as spaghetti, tomato paste, and rice, as well as 10,000 mosquito nets, blankets, and essential medical supplies for nearly 50,000 people.

“We thank Governor Zulum for his leadership and everyone working tirelessly to ensure these supplies reach those in need,” Tinubu said.

Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to Seyi Tinubu, the heir apparent of Nigeria’s first family, for his philanthropy and advocacy for youth development. He assured that the donations would be used effectively for their intended purpose.

The delegation then visited the palace of the Shehu of Borno, where they paid homage and offered condolences to His Eminence Abubakar Garbai Allamin Elkanemi regarding the flood disaster that had also significantly impacted his palace.
