Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has appointed Alhaji Dauda Iliya as the new official spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media, following the passing of Mallam Isa Gusau in February 2024.

The announcement was made in a statement on Friday by Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media. 

Dauda Iliya, who is currently the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Borno State Chapter, brings a robust background in journalism. He is from Kwaya-Kusar Local Government Area in southern Borno State. 

With a bachelor’s degree in English Linguistics and a master’s in Mass Communications from the University of Maiduguri, Iliya has also completed numerous professional courses. He is an active member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters.

Before his appointment, Iliya served as a reporter for federal radio corporations covering Borno State.

Governor Zulum expressed his confidence in Iliya’s abilities, stating, “I am confident that Dauda Iliya will utilize his extensive experience to further the development of Borno State.”
