Damaturu, Yobe State – Governor Mai Mala Buni has unveiled plans for special economic empowerment programs aimed at enhancing self-reliance among women in Yobe State.

This announcement, made public by  Mamman Mohammed, Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, came during a solidarity visit from women representatives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Potiskum local government area.

“We are committed to introducing new measures that will support and promote self-reliance, ultimately improving the economic situation for women across the state,” Governor Buni stated. He urged women to actively engage in economic ventures to bolster their personal finances.

In a gesture of support, the Governor presented each visiting representative with a deep freezer, promising that similar provisions would be extended to women across all 17 local government areas. “This initiative is aimed at helping you improve your businesses,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of using the resources wisely.

Governor Buni also cautioned against misusing the materials provided: “Please avoid selling the items given to you. They are meant to help you sustain and grow your businesses.” He expressed concern over the misuse of agricultural equipment from a previous empowerment program, noting, “Some beneficiaries disposed of the machines, and we have had to retrieve them. We will implement stricter measures for future beneficiaries, including requiring guarantors.”

Reinforcing party loyalty, the Governor remarked, “Your allegiance should be to the party, not to individuals. Remember, those individuals also adhere to the supremacy of our party.”

Governor Buni concluded by assuring that his administration would continue to engage with women’s groups to address their challenges and foster a sense of belonging.
