MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — The Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) has launched a vital relief effort in Maiduguri, delivering essential food and non-food items to 50,000 individuals affected by the severe floods that struck Borno State in September.

Pastor Joy Amenkhienan, who is leading the COFI delegation, highlighted the foundation’s commitment to supporting flood victims.

“Pastor Chris is deeply moved to assist the people of Borno impacted by this disaster. We are distributing food, clothing, and medical aid,” she said.

The delegation from COFI said the initiative marks the beginning of a broader intervention plan,

“This is just the first phase, similar to our efforts in Turkiye, where we have provided support on two occasions. We are here to assess the situation on the ground.”

During a courtesy visit at the state’s deputy governor, Usman Kadafur, Pastor Joy expressed her condolences for the community’s losses and reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Shuwari area.

“We recognise that many lives have been disrupted, and it is our responsibility to provide assistance,” she stated.

Kadafur praised COFI for its timely intervention. “The best among us are those who enable others to benefit from their resources,” he remarked, encouraging the delegation to focus on those most in need during the aid distribution.
