Maiduguri, Nigeria — At a Christmas luncheon celebrating the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum praised the military’s commitment not only to safeguarding the state but also to humanitarian efforts during times of crisis.
“Your relentless dedication to restoring stability in our region is commendable,” Zulum who was srepresented by Information and Internal Security Commissioner Usman A. Tar, said.
“The Air Force has been crucial in our fight against insurgency, especially during the recent flooding that devastated parts of Maiduguri.”
The luncheon, held at the Headquarters of the Air Component, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, was marked by recognition of the Air Force’s dual role—military and humanitarian.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, emphasized this commitment, stating, “Our resolve to eliminate terrorism across Nigeria is matched only by our dedication to serve the communities we protect.”
The Air Force’s support during the catastrophic floods was highlighted as a prime example of their commitment.
“Our response during the floods demonstrates that our mission extends beyond combat; we are here for the people,” Abubakar noted, thanking President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support of the Armed Forces.
Air Vice Marshal E.O.E. Ebowe shared significant progress made against insurgent groups, revealing that ongoing military operations have led to the elimination of high-value targets and the degradation of Boko Haram and ISWAP. “These efforts have encouraged many fighters to surrender, signaling a shift in the tide against terrorism,” he said.
Zulum reaffirmed the state’s partnership with the Air Force, stating, “Together, we are fostering a secure and peaceful environment for all residents. Your tireless efforts are vital to our success.”
The event, which included a cultural display and group photographs, underscored the NAF’s unwavering dedication to national security, even during the holiday season. Attendees included Theatre Commander OPHK NE Maj. Gen. W. Shuaibu and representatives from various security agencies and organizations.
