N’Djamena, Republic of Chad – Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has praised the troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) for their bravery in combating Boko Haram, while urging soldiers from the five participating countries to improve their efforts.
Speaking at the 2024 Medal Parade ceremony for ‘Operation Lake Sanity-2’, Zulum emphasized the importance of recognizing military achievements. He noted that such honors serve to motivate troops in their ongoing struggle against insurgency.
The officers and men of the MNJTF merit recognition from the leadership of the five West African nations that established the joint force in 2007 to combat trans-border banditry.

“While the insurgency in the Northeast has significantly decreased, this does not mean the fight is over,” Governor Zulum said.
“The medal awards should inspire our military to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram along the shores of Lake Chad.”
Zulum highlighted the necessity for continued support for the troops at both state and regional levels.
“Recently, we donated ₦300 million to the newly inaugurated Chief of Defence Military Foundation. This contribution reflects our commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance the welfare of our military personnel.”
Major General Ibrahim Ali, the event’s host, described the Operation Lake Sanity 2 Medal Parade as a pivotal occasion for military leaders and stakeholders to celebrate the courage of the troops working to secure the Lake Chad Basin region.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including the Chadian Minister of Defence, governors from the Lake Chad basin region, army chiefs from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin Republic, along with other high-ranking government officials.
Top of the event was the decoration of officers and men off the MNJTF for their recognized bravery and gallantry as well as recognition of the families of the KIA soldiers as well as those wounded in action.
