MAIDUGURI, Nigeria –  Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Minister of State for Regional Development, praised the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) on a recent visit to Borno State for its infrastructure development at the University of Maiduguri, including a newly built center for counterterrorism studies.


Ahmadu, who toured the facility, commended the NEDC for establishing what he called a “strategic study center” at his alma mater, from which he graduated in 1988. 

“We are delighted with the interventions of the NEDC, especially this important structure,” Ahmadu said.


University Vice Chancellor Professor Mele welcomed the minister and the NEDC management team, noting that the center, crucial for counterterrorism and peace development studies, is already in use.

He also appealed to the federal government for assistance in furnishing and equipping an adjacent building donated by the Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).


Following the tour, Ahmadu directed the NEDC Managing Director to immediately begin furnishing the TETFUND-donated building. 

“We will continue to encourage the NEDC to support the university in the areas necessary,” the minister stated.  Both the NEDC and TETFUND are federal government agencies.


Earlier in his visit,     the minister   paid a courtesy call on Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, expressing the Ministry of Regional Development’s commitment to partnering with the state government to address critical needs.
