MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — The Nigerian Army is taking a significant step towards national self-reliance, with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede on Monday commending the local production of combat equipment by an indigenous company. This move aligns directly with the federal government’s new policy prioritizing “Made-in-Nigeria” products for public and private institutions.
During the 2025 COAS Bi-Annual Conference in Maiduguri, Borno State, Gen. Oluyede formally received a fleet of “Vanquisher” All-Terrain Combat Vehicles, manufactured by Kaduna-based Vanquish Industries.
“From what I see here today, this is a clear manifestation of what we can do in Nigeria,” Gen. Oluyede stated, expressing strong approval for the local innovation.
The purchase of these vehicles, designed to enhance infantry mobility and enable troops to navigate challenging operational terrains, underscores a broader strategic shift. The federal government’s new policy seeks to stimulate local industries, create jobs, and reduce reliance on foreign imports across various sectors, including defense.
Mr. Zach Duwa, Managing Director of Vanquish Industries Limited, highlighted that the “Vanquisher” vehicles are built with military-grade materials and equipped with night vision technology, allowing for effective navigation in darkness. He also noted their capacity to accommodate additional facilities to boost troop efficiency.
These five vehicles represent the initial delivery, with more units currently in production. This local procurement initiative is expected to not only bolster the Army’s operational capabilities but also serve as a significant endorsement for Nigeria’s burgeoning defense manufacturing sector.
