Maiduguri, Borno State – In a dual recognition of her impactful tenure, Comrade Dr. Juliana Bitrus, the Permanent Secretary of the Borno State Ministry of Environment, has been lauded with two prestigious awards for her unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.
The Excellence Credit Award was bestowed upon her by the Borno State Sanitation Joint Forum Association (BOSEPA), while the Women Guide To Success Development Association also honored her with an excellence award.
The BOSEPA award, presented in 2025, specifically recognized Dr. Bitrus’s significant contributions to public sanitation, community health, and environmental stewardship across Borno State. Under her leadership, the Ministry of Environment has reportedly undergone a revitalization, focusing on sustainable development initiatives, grassroots sanitation awareness campaigns, and strengthening institutional capabilities.
These efforts have yielded tangible improvements in both urban and rural areas.
“Her professional integrity, commitment to excellence, and enduring impact on the state’s environmental sector are truly commendable,” a BOSEPA representative stated, underscoring the association’s high regard for Dr. Bitrus.
Adding to her accolades, Dr. Bitrus was also named Deputy Women Grand Patron by BOSEPA, a title acknowledging her exemplary role in promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women to actively participate in environmental management and civic leadership. Her influence is evident in the Ministry’s strategic direction, which includes coordinated monthly sanitation exercises, inter-agency collaborations, robust community engagement, and stringent enforcement of environmental regulations.
Meanwhile, the Women Guide To Success Development Association presented its own award to Dr. Bitrus, highlighting her “unwavering dedication and selfless contributions to humanity and the development of the State, particularly to women.” The association also noted a financial contribution from Dr. Bitrus aimed at bolstering their morale.
In her remarks, Dr. Bitrus expressed her gratitude to both organizations for the honors. Her leadership continues to steer the Ministry toward a cleaner, safer, and healthier Borno, establishing a lasting legacy in the state’s environmental landscape.
